My son had once a following... Usually after pool I urgently recommend to take with myself wadded sticks for ears and dry to wipe after bathing. And somehow time he has forgotten (or has not wanted) and having come after home has complained, that the left ear does not hear. I have advised to drip tincture of an aloe and next day all was good. So how is baby now? My youngest had frequent ear infections with no ear pain at all - he still does even at the age of 21 years! His symptoms were fever and an odd smell that it seems only I could smell! Hives do appear and disappear, it is weird that they do that! Antihistimines, like Benadryl helps with those.
